Spiritual Direction is a practice of listening for the sacred in the midst of everyday life.
It is a space where your story is received with care, where together we notice how God’s presence—sometimes quiet, sometimes surprising—is moving within you and around you.
A spiritual director accompanies you with compassion and without judgment, trusting that the true guide is the Holy Spirit. Together, we listen, we wonder, and we make room for what is unfolding.
Spiritual direction is both mystical and practical—rooted in real life as it is actually lived.
Typically, you meet with a director once a month, bringing whatever life is holding in that moment—ordinary or extraordinary, painful or joyful, dry or alive. There may be tears, and there is often laughter. You’re welcome to show up just as you are—no need to edit yourself.

“Spiritual Direction is the practice of Holy Presence and the gift of shared wisdom. The intent is to help us awaken as we journey, so that we can recognize the sacred within and be available to the mystery of purpose that permeates the cosmos.”
— Sherry Bryant Johnson

I AM AN -
HONORED WITNESS
TO YOUR SACRED STORY.

My name is Anna Martinez (she/her), and I am a certified Spiritual Director trained at the Christos Center for Spiritual Formation. I deepened this training through the Upper Room’s Two-Year Academy for Spiritual Formation and hold a Master of Social Work from the University of Minnesota. My earliest sense of calling to ministry emerged through work with youth, which continues to shape my listening, curiosity, and care for how people come to meaning over time. I am a passionate knitter, drawn to quiet, attentive making—threads and rhythm that mirror the slow work of listening for the sacred. I also hold a deep value for daily connection with nature as grounding, presence, and spiritual awareness.

My approach to spiritual direction is rooted in the Christian tradition and open to the wide landscape of human experience. I welcome people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and spiritual paths. I trust that the Divine is encountered in many ways, each shaped by a person’s own understanding and lived story. I also attend to the many ways belonging is formed and sustained across diverse family structures and relationships.

I have come to know that life is layered and often uncertain, and that faith and meaning unfold rather than arrive. Spiritual direction offers space to be with that unfolding honestly, without urgency or pressure. I tend that space with care, offering presence that is steady, spacious, and nonjudgmental.

Spiritual direction can be deeply meaningful work, but it does not need to be heavy. There is room for curiosity, lightness, and even laughter. You are welcome to bring your whole self—what is clear, what is tangled, and what is still becoming.

I am happy to see you in person at my office in Plymouth, MN, or virtually, via Zoom. Sessions are one hour and we generally meet monthly. My first session with a new directee is always free to help discern if this is a good fit for both of us.
